Rugby fans do deserve better

Yes, there has been a fair amount of speculation, the reason being the media have been largely left in the dark over the whole national coaching set-up.

It looks like the powers that be at SA Rugby have wimped out again by delaying any announcement on the future of embattled Springbok coach Allister Coetzee.

“To assist media in their reporting and in light of considerable speculation, please be advised that SA Rugby will not be in a position to respond to questions regarding the speculation on the coaching of the national team until the new year.

“A number of meetings and reviews are in progress on all national teams after which plans for all teams in 2018 will be confirmed,” a brief statement read yesterday.

Yes, there has been a fair amount of speculation, the reason being the media have been largely left in the dark over the whole national coaching set-up.

All we know for a fact is that Rassie Erasmus has taken up a new position as director of rugby and brought defence expert Jacques Nienaber with him.

The confused rugby public has been left in the dark regarding the underperforming Coetzee’s future and what his role, or his potential successor, will be in the set-up under Erasmus.

But instead of providing answers, SA Rugby has casually put the issue on the back burner for Christmas. Fans deserve more than this.
