October 20, 2017

The Aussie sailor has joined Frank Racing for the Labour Weekend race to Russell.

Australian sailor Jimmy Spithill is embracing his newest challenge, as he gears up to take part in this weekend's Coastal Classic race from Auckland to Russell.

Spithill, 38, has signed on with Frank Racing, as they bid to claim the Labour Weekend race for 2017, however will step away from his role at the helm to take part as a regular crew member.

"I love working with teams," Spithill said.

"It doesn't matter what boat or group of people you go out with, you always learn something."

"It's a little bit like a rugby game - you've got to do a bit of everything, regardless of your position."

When asked about his reason's behind joining up with Frank Racing, Spithill was his usual, cheeky, self in reply.

"It's just this amazing New Zealand weather," he joked.

"It's something I've wanted to do for a long, long time and it just never really worked out.

"When Simon (Hull, Frank Racing skipper) got in touch, I just jumped at it."
