The under-19 boys’ Prairie Blizzard got off to a rough start at the Canadian Rugby Championships in Saskatoon on Tuesday.

The Blizzard, who feature Cole Hamilton and Reilly Keele of Brandon, Matthew Vinck and Federico Vargas of Souris as well as Michael Goretzen of Forrest, lost their opener 58-0 to Ontario (1-1). The team, coached by Brandon’s Brian Yon, wraps up pool play today against the Atlantic Rock (1-0), which beat Ontario 35-19 on Monday.

In the senior women’s division, Souris product Emily Tuttosi and the Prairie Wolfpack dropped to 0-2 with a 24-15 loss to the Nova Scotia Keltics. Tuttosi was held off the scoresheet for the Wolfpack.

Amanda Thornborough, who’s originally from Brandon, and British Columbia (1-0) takes on Nova Scotia (1-0) today.
